This trip is awesome! I had the idea that I wanted to see Mongolia, but I really didnt know what was there except yurts and yaks and horses. This trip exceeded all my expectations as far as arriving during Naadam and seeing the festival, seeing the city, and seeing the countryside. And... they arent yurts. They are gers in Mongolia. We had a great time on the bikes and spent time with a local family. We climbed massive hills on the bike and a mountain on foot. We got to ride horses and gallop as fast as we wanted. The guides and ride leaders are fantastic- Daniel and Chris did an amazing job and I'd ride again with both of them any day. Our guides were so generous with their knowledge of their country, customs, and culture. And the food! OMG, the food! We ate so well. I cant believe what our kitchen staff could do with propane. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for adventure. One thing- this year was in July and the nights were pretty chilly. 2026 appears to be in October, so prepare for COLD nights. And no festival in October. If you have the time, arrive a few days early and book some local tours through Viator or other tour companies and spend extra time seeing the city and the local sites.

This was my first tour with People Cycling and it was a great experience. WeAdventures and its local Mongolian Expeditions support crew did a tremendous job making sure the group had fun while we explored cultural sites, learned about nomadic life on the steppes, tried interesting food and drink, rode mountain bikes and horses and hiked a peak. I appreciated the guides' expertise in changing plans seamlessly when needed (e.g., changing a scheduled activity when it was apparent the group was tired, or when there was an unintended glitch in plans, like vanpooling to a different mountain valley for a hot cooked lunch when the vans couldn't get into the valley we cycled to). We camped in good quality tents about half the time and stayed in gers (yurts) the rest of the time. We always had showers (not necessarily hot) and toilet facilities in the tent camps (hot showers at the ger camps), and three nutritious meals per day. The route was challenging yet doable, and one always had a choice whether to ride in a support vehicle or shorten the route instead of overdoing it. The other folks on the trip really made the trip for me - many were long-time PC travelers, or had toured with WeAdventures before, and/or knew other people on the trip. We newbies to PC (and some newbies to cycle touring) were welcomed with open arms. Everyone was positive, gracious and generous with advice and travel stories. I want to come back for more!

One of the best trips I’ve ever done. Scenery was spectacular (green hills, wildflowers galore, horses, etc). The cycling was challenging at times (washboard roads, rocky sections), but mileage was manageable so it was all doable, and worth it. Food was excellent, and presentation of all meals was wonderful. More fruits & vegetables than I had anticipated. All staff from guides, cooks, drivers and WeAdventure did an outstanding job.

This was a strenuous tour, with a chance to see Mongolia well off the beaten track. Support was excellent (food, transportation, daily briefings, camping gear etc) but be prepared to eat mostly traditional Mongolian food, meaning a lot of mutton and other meats. Vegetarian offerings were given; I didn't try them. The rental bikes were adequate, though minimal shocks and some issues with shifters. I would class this as a "gravel tour", not really mountain biking, but riders with little or no off-road experience could find it challenging at times on rocky and steep sections. I would have liked a chair to lean back in for the evenings, not just a bench. I would have been satisfied with packing my own lunch from a variety of options rather than a long lunch break while food was cooked and served. The People Cycling leaders did not attend so I'm not sure why I paid them, but the local company We Adventure did a great job.

This was an amazing adventure! The logistics of putting the trip together boggles my mind. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable and were like human GPSs. Must have an adventurous spirit to enjoy a trip like this but the challenge was so worth it. WeAdventure did a great job pulling everything together!

This "ride" was a great experience. It was more than just a several day bike tour. It was a fully supported expedition through a gorgeous portion of the Mongolian steppe (the ultimate Big Sky Country) and incorporated a mountain climb and horseback riding in addition to 5-6 days of biking on the country's notorious unpaved roads. Though rated as "moderate" in difficulty, it was far from easy as it included several tough climbs on the bike, extended sections of washboarded or tricky gravel road, some long fast descents and water crossings, and a challenging mountain climb with over 3000 ft. of elevation gain. Not to mention the horseback riding, which I suspect most of the participants would say was the most physically demanding element of the whole tour. All this was planned and delivered by the amazing Daniel Moylan, his supporting team in Mongolia, and a set of drivers, guides and cooks who were great (and a couple are/were accomplished Mongolian athletes). Most nights we set up and slept in high quality North Face tents, but we also stayed in a couple of ger camps that were not fancy, but comfortable. Given the complexity of the logistics involved there were a few inevitable snafus, such as the UAZ driver who drove his 4x4 into a bog. (Luckily the drivers eventually pulled it out after a few comedic failed attempts). But Daniel is a world-class tour leader and handled it all with aplomb. We left on schedule every day and Daniel and the team were flexible and responsive to the group's needs. The tour also incorporated a strong cultural component so we had the opportunity to better understand the country's culture, history, politics and economics, thanks in part to our knowledgeable local guide, Chinggis. Visiting a nomadic family's ger/yurt in an isolated valley (complete with solar panels, satellite dish, Prius and herd of horses) and sampling their airag (fermented mare's milk), cheese and yogurt, was a highlight. Even riding in the Russian UAZ Country Vans was a blast. We were fortunate on this tour to have a great group that was supportive and fun to get to know. And finally, the tour began and ended in the capital, Ulaanbaatar, a dynamic and rapidly changing city that was fun to explore and felt safe (though as with any big city, take precautions). I highly recommend this tour and visiting Mongolia generally, a beautiful country with a fascinating history and wonderful people.

This is about the most amazing tour I've ever done! Mongolia is a true frontier, mostly unspoiled by tourism. I was amazed at how green and lush it was in July, with endless wide-open spaces, mountains, forests, and abundant wildflowers. Outside of the main city the land is almost entirely free-range for nomads and their herds, with no fences or private land ownership. It was quite an experience to visit the nomads in their gers, try the native foods, and learn about their customs and history. Our support crew was great and we all came to love their crazy Russian 4wd vans that drove straight up the hills and through the swamps and rivers. The rental mountain bikes worked well and the daily distances were reasonable. I was glad to get a chance to ride the Mongolian horses, and to do some hiking too.

Mongolia is beautiful. The excellent planning and execution by WeAdventure, including selection of the local crew who were great, made the experience a really good one. Would recommend this tour.

This was probably a trip of a lifetime. I never knew that I needed to go to Mongolia. I can't say enough about the trip in its entirety. From the pre-trip guided Nadaam festival activities, to the range of biking conditions and locations, to the food while camping and staying in gers, to the family visit to try all varieties of mare's milk products, the trip offered adventures at every turn. The entire team was helpful, warm, fun-loving and gracious. I can't recommend this trip highly enough. Thanks to all.

About People Cycling

People Cycling is a bicycle touring club, which you can join for free. We offer Domestic and International Cycling Tours which are led by volunteer Ride Leaders. Our tours are made up of a small group of participants (typically 15-20 or so) who want to ride an average of 30 to 55 miles a day over a one or two week period in interesting regions of the world. Our tours range in price from frugal getaways to luxurious adventures. We travel road, gravel, or mountain bike styles, and all bicycle types – including e-bikes, recumbents, and tandems are typically allowed.

Our ride leaders are volunteers and do not financially profit on tours they lead. They are also given broad discretion on how to lead their tours, and we consider them our greatest asset.

People Cycling tours are operated at cost or at lower cost (as negotiated by our ride leaders) than individuals can obtain on commercial tours. Within the cost of a tour, there is a nominal fee to support club operations and provide tools to ride leaders to manage their rides.
