Join us for a late summer tour of the Jersey Shore. This fixed base ride will stay in Ocean Grove, NJ, a tiny Victorian town right next to Asbury Park. The very flat terrain brings us to Sandy Hook National Park, Fort Hancock and Scenic Road (which offers a tremendous view of the Verrazano Bridge and New York City), Spring Lake, Bay Head and more. Inland, we’ll visit Rumson, Red Bank and beautiful horse country and farmland. Keep on the lookout for some unique sights, including the location of a President’s passing, a glimpse of some “The Sopranos” locations, E Street, Springsteen’s former mansion and studio, as well as the legendary Stone Pony which is a short walk from our lodging. You may wish to combine this tour with a visit to NYC, a scant 50 miles away although we think you’ll be more than satisfied with the riding venues provided. It may surprise some but this area of New Jersey is quite beautiful. And flat!
The tour is rated EASY except for the chance of occasional strong winds (which would bump a ride's rating up to MODERATE). All rides are flat, though for those who seek more, mileage extensions will be available. On two rides, there are short inclines in the 5% range with over 90% of the routes being dead flat. The coastal rides can encounter some wind which is normally relatively light. Though traffic can be heavy during the summer seas… (Join People Cycling to read more)
