General Information & Ride Overview
In the period leading up to the recent two year travel shutdown, the hottest place to cycle was without a doubt, Croatia. Nestled on the Adriatic coast opposite Italy, the shoreline stretches from the culinary and wine regions of Istria in the North to the Dalmation coast in the South, a natural work of art perfected by some of history's greatest architects, comprising a series of beautiful islands punctuating the azure blue Mediterranean seas.
Our 12 Day journey takes in the best of Croatia, with the first section covering the wine regions cultural gemstones, the rich medieval towns and Venetian architecture of Istria. As we progress South the landscape changes to olive plantations and lavender farms before we take to the islands, via a series of public and private boat crossings, to explore the Dalmatian coast from Split to Dubrovnich.
We ride in September, avoiding the hottest time of year, and offering the best chance of perfect cycling weather. Various airports are available for the inbound flight and land transfer, the easiest is Pula, Croatia (PUY 1hr), or Treiste across the border in Italy (TRS 1hr), or alternatively Venice, Italy (VCE 3hrs) or Zagreb (ZAG 4hrs). We meet in Buje, on 20th September, for a bike fitting and welcome dinner, before enjoying 12 days of great cycling, wine tastings, culinary journeys… (Join People Cycling to read more)
