The Coast of Maine: South Coast to Mid Coast!
Since 1992, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine has been promoting bicycle riding in Maine with various rides and tours in their state. Many clubs and associations have also held tours along the Coast of Maine including the Adventure Cycling Association (ACA). A leader of one of ACA’s tours of Maine along with a veteran tour leader who, although not a local has toured along the Maine coast, have combined to offer this tour. Jim Brown and Rick Gallo welcome you to the Coast of Maine (although we start in Portsmouth, NH: 1.4 miles from the Maine border). The tour will take you past the sites that the South Coast and the Mid-Coast offers. Are there any secrets to a great bicycle tour of the coast of Maine when there are many articles and even books written? With a great helping hand from Bob & Carol Anderson, who have pedaled this area numerous times and even led a Coastal Maine tour, we will stay off of busy roads as much as possible as we pass by beaches and lighthouses. Enjoy your Lobstah and blueberries. We will pedal thru the City of Portland, and towns small, medium, quaint and touristy: Kennebunkport, Portland, Freeport, Brunswick, Bath, Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor (we have a rest day here), Damariscotta, Thomaston, Rockland, Camden, Belfast, Bucksport, Penobscot, Blue Hill, Ellsworth and Bar Harbor.
