General Information & Ride Overview
This cross border adventure takes place across 3 countries (Thailand, Laos & Vietnam), over 17 days/ 16 nights in November, the ideal time to visit. Starting at 5pm on Sunday 6th November, at Tamarind Village Resort, Chiang Mai Thailand (CNX), and ending after breakfast on Tuesday 22nd November at The O-Gallery Hotel, Hanoi Vietnam. (HAN). Due to the international dateline, return travel on the 22nd will likely see you arriving home on the same day with plenty of time to prepare for and enjoy Thanksgiving.
Our journey begins in Thailand, with a tour of the walled city, Chiang Mai, the northern cultural capital of present day Siam, and former centre of the Lanna kingdom. Leaving the city, we ride 4 days northeast via hill tribe villages and jungle lined ways to Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle, the confluence of Mekong and Ruak rivers, triple borders of Burma, Laos and Thailand.
Those who have experienced Laos, know it as one of the best kept secrets in South East Asia. Seemingly stuck in a timewarp, a trickle of adventurous tourists have done little to change the traditional culture and make up of the sparsely populated and tribal country. Crossing from Thailand into Laos by boat, we land at Pakbeng, before riding through areas where foreigners are rarely seen, to experience river life en route to Luang Prabang.
