The Rhine Source to Sea bike tour is a stunning 800 mile ride along the banks of the mighty Rhine River. This route will take you through six countries: Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria, Germany, France and The Netherlands. From the Swiss Alps to the North Sea, the Rhine has been at the heart of central Europe's cultural and economic development for over 2,000 years
Our route, which is basically downstream all the way, drops out of the Swiss Alps and arcs round to Lake Constance, and then on to Basel before heading north through Strasbourg. Passing west of Frankfurt, we continue through Bonn and Dusseldorf to Arnhem, then west to the Hook of Holland. You’ll delight at exploring the beauty of this river landscape and the picturesque towns and villages lining its banks, a number of which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Some of the highlights of this tour include:
- After departing the cosmopolitan city of Zurich, you’ll board a mountain railway to the Oberlap Alpine pass. Here you will be nearest to the source of the Rhine. Exiting the train, you’ll mount your bicycle and enjoy a thrilling decent, dropping about 4,000 feet in 20 miles.
- On day four, you’ll ride through four countries! At the end of the day we’ll stay in a hotel in the German town of Lindau, which is on an island in beautiful Lake Constance.… (Join People Cycling to read more)
